Yes, I’m using a Blackberry Curve 8520 and like I’ve did some tutorial on how to use a DSLR before, I’ve decided to give a slight bit of tutorial on what you can expect from a BB Curve 8520..
IMHO, BB Curve-Series is an economic BB, where its specs are far more inferior if compared to its fellow BB of the Storm-Series and Bold-Series hence the more affordable price..
Even so, a BB Curve could do wonders that most normal phones cannot do..
One of BB’s strongest fundamental features is the Push-Mail function..
*BB Curve 8520 – Push-mail*
I’ve integrated my Gmail with my BB Push-mail function and now I receive mails just like I receive SMSes..
I don’t have to download my mail nor wait for it to load, I just open my mails on my BB just like how people open their SMSes..
Other than Push-Mail, one of BB’s stronghold that I would say could change the SMS world in the near future, is the Blackberry Messenger (BBM)..
BBM is almost like any IM application but it’s for BB users only..
*BBM Barcode*
With BBM, one can key-in the user’s phone number or his/her BB-PIN to add a contact..
To make it more high-tech, you can display your BB’s Barcode, then scan the barcode through another BB’s camera..
You can also screenshot your BB Barcode, display it in your blog or somewhere so that other people can scan your Barcode without you telling them your BB-PIN..
*The few people in my BBM – Jynn, KY, Sharon, and Vivien*
After you’ve added your friend’s BB contact, you will no longer have to SMS your friend..You can message your friend via BBM..
That’s why I said it will change the SMS world in the near future..Honestly, I felt more intimate to chat with my friends on BBM rather than other IMs..
Other than that, there are few other apps that can be used and very popular as of late, such as Twitter..BB’s Twitter apps are the 2 more recognisable TwitterBerry and UberTwitter..
UberTwitter provides a much neat and better platform as compared to TwitterBerry..
Do read more on Blackberry phones below..
*UberTwitter*
As many people know, I tweet more than ever after I’ve got my BB Curve..
I tweet when I eat..I tweet when I drive..I tweet in the cinema..I tweet when I yamcha..I tweet in my class..I feel so connected with my friends..LOL
And with that, I’ve created my own hashtag for my easy reference when I talk about BB with my friends on Twitter called #YatBBlog..
Besides, to be able to access to Twitter via mobile is quite useful or I would say beneficial to clubbers or party-goers..
Fellow “Good Samaritans” in KL are pretty good in updating their Twitter whenever they came across any police or JPJ road blocks around Klang Valley via @KLRoadblock..
A mention of #klrb in your tweet will be ReTweeted automatically from that account..It’s a very useful tool if you feel like avoiding roadblocks..
Of course, I sometimes updated photos via TweetPhoto on my BB, do check out my TweetPhoto account and some on my TwitPic account..
*Foursquare*
Other than that, Foursquare is one of the fastest moving apps that a lot of people have been playing with..
When you reach a place, just check-in in your mobile via Foursquare for BB (for BB users)..
You will get points from each check-ins and you can unlocked badges as you check-in at more places..
*My Foursquare*
For far I already have 11 badges and 24 Mayorships but that could be changed anytime, be it my Mayorship is ousted by someone is the other way round..
Lastly, one of the many reasons people bought smartphones like BB is for its data plan and when it comes to data plan, people hooked up more on Facebook via Facebook Mobile..
*Facebook Mobile for Blackberry Curve 8520*
Just open your Facebook account with the browser, you can download the Facebook Mobile apps for your BB..
The browser will detect your version of BB and you can just download accordingly..
I’m able to update my status and reply comments right away instead of only getting notifications on my email..Very fast indeed..
For more apps, you can download Blackberry App World..You can find more apps or themes for your BB..Some apps are free but it’s very limited..Else, pay for what you want..
Having a BB is like having a mini PC in my hands..After I’ve gotten this BB, I got no reason to sit in front of my home PC anymore..
There were few times I don’t know what to do, stoned in front of the PC..Mails, checked..Facebook, checked..Twitter, checked..
Other than blogging, using Microsoft Words, and Photoshop, my home PC is almost useless to me..
And I heard I can blog via BB through an application but I’ve yet to try..Maybe I should try to do a short update on my BB soon..
*Reboot*
Also, usually after you have installed an application, you will have to reboot your BB..If you have not reboot your BB, plain switching off your BB wouldn’t help..
IMHO, switching off BB by holding the red button is just putting the BB on hibernate/sleep mode..
To really reboot a BB, you have to switch off your phone, remove its battery from its case for at least 15 seconds..Put it back in after that and you have already reboot..
Try to reboot your phone once every week or so, it’s like your PC..No way you can switch on your PC 24/7 for few weeks or so..Reboot for a while..
Do take note also the time frame for start-up after reboot is kinda long too..It will take at least 1-2 minutes, maybe longer..
*BB Curves belong to me, Jason, and Lisia*
So have you BB?
I would say do now with Digi Blackberry with only RM58/month for unlimited data transfer..
No commitment fees required for calls or SMS, pay only RM58/month for the unlimited data transfer plan, that’s including Push-Mail, BBM, apps, and also WEB-BROWSING!
If you have made any call or SMS, pay as you use and the rate is definitely pretty low..
Not to mention now a lot of BB Plans with VERY low rate are only applicable for Applications but NOT web-browsing..Now you can do everything with Digi BB for just RM58/month..
Do check out Digi BB Page or follow their Twitter on @DiGi_Telco..
